Mix WarzoneClean baseline before EQ.
PC and consoleOnly one audio-processing layer.
Footsteps presetAdjustable starting point.
Stereo headphones, safe volume, music minimized, reduced dialogue, strong effects and only one processing layer among the game, Windows, headset software or DAC. Double surround processing often makes direction and distance harder to understand.
1. Basic settings in Warzone
| Setting | UIS OFBR baseline | Goal |
|---|---|---|
| Audio Mix | Headphones / equivalent headphone profile | Consistent and less-compressed stereo image. |
| Master Volume | 70–85 | Detail without fatigue. |
| Effects Volume | 100 | Footsteps and combat cues in the foreground. |
| Music Volume | 0–10 | Avoids masking during fights. |
| Dialogue Volume | 20–40 | Keeps alerts audible without masking details. |
| Mono Audio | Off | Preserves left/right direction. |
Option names may change after updates. If an option is not present, use the closest equivalent and always verify it in-game.
2. PC: avoid double processing
- If you use Equalizer APO/Peace, disable any parallel EQ in Sonar, G Hub, iCUE, Dolby or the DAC.
- Start with Windows spatial audio disabled. Test it only as an alternative, never layered on top of other virtual-surround processing.
- In Warzone, select the same device set as the default Windows output.
- Disable unnecessary audio enhancements and check that left and right channels are correct.
- Restart Warzone after changing the audio device or software.
3. Console: clean profile
- Connect headphones directly to the controller, console or compatible DAC.
- Start with unprocessed stereo; then compare the console’s 3D audio using the same scene.
- Reduce music and chat if they mask game details.
- Do not stack console 3D audio with the headset’s virtual surround.
4. UIS OFBR EQ preset — starting point
This preset reduces low-frequency rumble and moderately boosts the presence region. It is not universal: headphones, hearing and game updates can change the result.
| 31 Hz | 62 Hz | 125 Hz | 250 Hz | 500 Hz | 1 kHz | 2 kHz | 4 kHz | 8 kHz | 16 kHz |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| −4 | −3 | −2 | −1 | 0 | +1 | +3 | +4 | +2 | 0 |
5. Nova Pro Wired — UIS OFBR protocol
For SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wired, use the preset as a baseline in Equalizer APO + Peace or recreate it in Sonar. Choose one EQ only and disable the other. Start without spatial audio; enable it only after a direct comparison and keep it only if height and distance localization improve.
6. Quick 5-minute test
- Always use the same mode or test area.
- Listen for footsteps in front, to the sides, above and below.
- Compare the base preset and EQ at the same perceived volume.
- Change only one setting at a time.
- Keep the profile that improves direction and distance, not the one that simply sounds louder.
Reduce 62–250 Hz by 1–2 dB.
Reduce 4–8 kHz by 1–2 dB.
Return to stereo and disable any double-surround processing.
7. UIS OFBR Footstep Audio Wizard
Choose the path closest to your setup. The goal is not to make everything louder, but to separate footsteps, verticality and distance from gunfire, explosions, streaks and dialogue.
Clean PC path
- Select the correct device in Windows and Warzone.
- Temporarily disable all effects.
- Test clean stereo.
- Add only one EQ.
- Compare spatial audio as an alternative, not layered on top.
PlayStation path
- Start with stereo headphones and the in-game headphone mix.
- Adjust the console’s 3D audio profile.
- Compare the same scene with 3D audio on and off.
- Avoid additional surround processing in the headset.
- Choose the profile with better verticality, not the loudest one.
Xbox path
- Check headphone output and chat/game balance.
- Start with uncompressed stereo.
- Test only one compatible spatial system.
- Disable parallel headset processing.
- Compare direction, vertical levels and distance.
8. Profile by device
| Device | Starting point | Priority check |
|---|---|---|
| Open-back headphones | Clean stereo, light EQ | Check that environmental noise does not mask details and that bass is not too light. |
| Closed-back headphones | Moderate 62–250 Hz reduction | Check rumble, pressure and fatigue during long sessions. |
| Earphones / IEM | Very conservative EQ, reduced volume | Peaks between 2 and 8 kHz can become fatiguing quickly. |
| DAC / MixAmp | Only one active preset | Avoid stacking DAC EQ, software EQ and system surround. |
| Speakers | Stereo and symmetrical positioning | Suitable for casual play, less reliable for micro-details and competitive verticality. |
9. How to read audio cues
Rotate your view slightly to confirm left/right. If the center image feels too wide, remove double-surround processing.
Compare timbre, reverb and floor material. Verticality also depends on the mix and map geometry.
Do not judge volume alone: listen for high-frequency attenuation, ambience and transients.
Metal, wood, glass and concrete help identify an opponent’s route and possible access point.
10. Diagnosing the most common problems
| Problem | Possible cause | First correction |
|---|---|---|
| Footsteps are loud but hard to localize | Double surround or overly wide soundstage | Return to stereo and reactivate only one processing layer. |
| Explosions mask everything | Excessive bass and master volume | Reduce 62–250 Hz and lower master volume while keeping Effects consistent. |
| Metallic or fatiguing audio | Excessive 2–8 kHz boost | Reduce those bands by 1–2 dB and compare at the same volume. |
| Left and right seem reversed | Channels, cable or headphones reversed | Run a stereo channel test outside the game. |
| Chat masks the game | Chat/game balance | Reduce chat or use the console, DAC or software mix control. |
| Settings changed after an update | Game, driver or software reset | Check output, mix, mono, spatial and EQ before retuning. |
11. UIS OFBR competitive protocol
- Save a baseline: note mix, volume, spatial processing, software and EQ.
- Use a repeatable scene: same location, surface, distance and volume.
- Compare A/B: alternate two profiles without changing anything else.
- Evaluate three dimensions: direction, verticality and distance.
- Check combat: verify that footsteps remain readable during gunfire and explosions.
- Keep the most informative profile: not necessarily the brightest or loudest one.
Device corretto · Audio Mix · Effects/Music/Dialogue · Mono Off · Spatial audio · EQ attivo una sola volta · Chat/game balance · Canali sinistro/destra.
12. Hearing safety
Higher volume does not guarantee better footstep readability. If you experience ringing, muffling, pain or fatigue, stop the session and lower the level. Prefer regular breaks and moderate volume; EQ should improve contrast, not force you to listen louder.
Audio & Footsteps FAQ
Stereo or virtual surround?
Start with clean stereo, then compare only one surround/spatial system. Choose the one that improves direction and verticality in the same scene.
Is there a perfect EQ for every headset?
No. The UIS OFBR preset is a conservative baseline: headphone response, hearing and game updates require adaptation.
Can Dolby, Sonar, DTS and 3D audio work together?
Stacking them often worsens localization. Test one system at a time and compare it with stereo.
Why can I hear footsteps well alone but not in combat?
The problem may be masking caused by bass, explosions, streaks, dialogue or chat. Reduce competing sources before increasing volume.
Find your competitive setup
Analyze your audio chain and build a profile to recognize footsteps, parachutes, doors, ziplines and enemy position. Change one setting at a time and always compare at the same perceived volume.
Enemy Awareness Suite
Complete the modules and use the results to build a repeatable baseline. The tests do not reproduce proprietary Warzone audio: they measure your ability to distinguish channels, direction and audio-chain configuration.
