AUDIO / FOOTSTEPS BOOST
Competitive guide to make footsteps, slides, stairs and elevation changes in Warzone more readable without covering important information with bass, effects or unnecessary processing.

Mix WarzoneClean base before EQ.
PC and consoleA single audio processing chain.
Footsteps presetAdjustable starting point.
Stereo headphones, safe volume, music at minimum, reduced dialogues, effects clearly present and a single processing layer between game, Windows, headset software or DAC. Dual surround often makes it harder to understand direction and distance.
1. Basic settings in Warzone
| Item | UIS OFBR base | Goal |
|---|---|---|
| Audio Mix | Headphones / equivalent headset profile | Coherent and less compressed stereo image. |
| Master Volume | 70–85 | Detail without fatigue. |
| Effects Volume | 100 | Footsteps and combat cues up front. |
| Music Volume | 0–10 | Avoid masking during fights. |
| Dialogue Volume | 20–40 | Keeps alerts without covering details. |
| Mono Audio | Off | Preserve left/right directionality. |
Names of items may change after updates. If an option is missing, use the closest equivalent and always verify in-game.
2. PC: avoid double processing
- If you use Equalizer APO/Peace, disable parallel EQ from Sonar, G Hub, iCUE, Dolby or the DAC.
- Start with Windows spatial audio off. Try it only as an alternative, never layered with other virtual surrounds.
- Select in Warzone the same device set as the default output in Windows.
- Disable unnecessary audio enhancements and check that left and right are correct.
- Restart Warzone after changing device or audio software.
3. Console: clean profile
- Connect headphones directly to the controller, console or compatible DAC.
- Start with unprocessed stereo; then compare the console’s 3D audio with the same scene.
- Reduce music and chat if they cover game details.
- Do not combine console 3D audio and the headset’s virtual surround.
4. UIS OFBR EQ Preset — starting point
This preset reduces the rumble of low frequencies and moderately increases the presence region. It is not universal: headphones, hearing and game updates change the result.
| 31 Hz | 62 Hz | 125 Hz | 250 Hz | 500 Hz | 1 kHz | 2 kHz | 4 kHz | 8 kHz | 16 kHz |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| −4 | −3 | −2 | −1 | 0 | +1 | +3 | +4 | +2 | 0 |
5. Nova Pro Wired — UIS OFBR protocol
For SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wired use the preset as a base in Equalizer APO + Peace or recreate it in Sonar. Choose only one EQ and disable the other. Start without spatial audio; enable it only after a direct comparison and keep it only if you localize height and distance better.
6. Quick 5-minute test
- Always enter the same test mode or area.
- Listen to footsteps from front, side, above and below.
- Compare base preset and EQ at the same perceived volume.
- Change only one setting at a time.
- Save the profile that improves direction and distance, not the one that only seems louder.
Reduce 62–250 Hz by 1–2 dB.
Reduce 4–8 kHz by 1–2 dB.
Return to stereo and disable any dual surround.
7. UIS OFBR Footstep Audio Wizard
Choose the path closest to your setup. The goal is not to make everything louder, but to separate footsteps, verticality and distance from the noise of gunfire, explosions, streaks and dialogues.
Clean PC path
- Select the correct device in Windows and Warzone.
- Temporarily disable all effects.
- Try clean stereo.
- Add a single EQ.
- Compare spatial audio as an alternative, not layered.
PlayStation path
- Start from stereo headphones and the game’s headphone mix.
- Adjust the console’s 3D audio profile.
- Compare the same scene with 3D on and off.
- Avoid additional surround in the headset.
- Choose the profile with better verticality, not the louder one.
Xbox path
- Check headset output and chat/game balance.
- Start from uncompressed stereo.
- Try a single compatible spatial system.
- Disable parallel processing by the headset.
- Compare direction, vertical planes and distance.
8. Profile by device
| Device | Starting point | Priority check |
|---|---|---|
| Open-back headphones | Clean stereo, light EQ | Ensure the environment doesn’t mask details and that the bass isn’t too weak. |
| Closed-back headphones | Moderate reduction 62–250 Hz | Check for boominess, pressure and fatigue in long sessions. |
| Earpieces / IEM | Very cautious EQ, reduced volume | Peaks between 2 and 8 kHz can become fatiguing quickly. |
| DAC / MixAmp | A single preset active | Avoid DAC EQ plus software EQ plus system surround. |
| Speakers | Stereo and symmetric positioning | Suitable for casual play, less reliable for micro-details and competitive verticality. |
9. How to read audio cues
Slightly rotate the view to confirm left/right. If the center seems too wide, remove the dual surround.
Compare timbre, reverb and floor material. Verticality also depends on the mix and map geometry.
Don’t judge by volume alone: listen for high-frequency attenuation, room and transients.
Metal, wood, glass and concrete help understand the opponent’s path and possible access points.
10. Diagnosis of common problems
| Problem | Possible cause | First fix |
|---|---|---|
| Footsteps are loud but not localizable | Dual surround or scene too wide | Return to stereo and enable only one processing chain. |
| Explosions cover everything | Excessive bass and master | Reduce 62–250 Hz and lower the master while keeping Effects consistent. |
| Metallic or fatiguing audio | Excessive boost 2–8 kHz | Reduce those bands by 1–2 dB and compare at the same volume. |
| Left and right seem swapped | Channels, cable or headset worn backwards | Run a stereo channel test outside the game. |
| Chat covers the game | Chat/game balance | Reduce chat or use the console, DAC or software mix control. |
| Settings changed after an update | Game, driver or software reset | Check output, mix, mono, spatial and EQ before redoing tuning. |
11. UIS OFBR competitive protocol
- Save a baseline: note mix, volume, spatial, software and EQ.
- Use a repeatable scene: same place, material, distance and volume.
- Compare A/B: alternate two profiles without changing anything else.
- Evaluate three dimensions: direction, verticality and distance.
- Check combat: verify if footsteps remain readable during gunfire and explosions.
- Keep the most informative profile: not necessarily the brightest or loudest one.
Correct device · Audio Mix · Effects/Music/Dialogue · Mono Off · Spatial audio · Single active EQ · Chat/game balance · Left/right channels.
12. Hearing safety
Higher volume does not guarantee better reading of footsteps. If you experience ringing, muffled sound, pain or fatigue, stop the session and lower the level. Prefer regular breaks and moderate volume; EQ should improve contrast, not force you to listen louder.
Audio & Footsteps FAQ
Stereo or virtual surround?
Start from clean stereo, then compare a single surround/spatial system. Choose the one that improves direction and verticality in the same scene.
Is there a perfect EQ for all headphones?
No. The UIS OFBR preset is a cautious starting point: headphone response, hearing and game updates require adjustment.
Can Dolby, Sonar, DTS and 3D audio work together?
Stacking them often worsens localization. Try one system at a time and compare with stereo.
Why do I hear footsteps clearly alone but not in combat?
The issue may be masking caused by bass, explosions, killstreaks, dialogue or chat. Reduce competing sources before increasing volume.
